How do I remove metadata from a photo?

How do I remove GPS location from a photo?
Upload the photo on the homepage and download the cleaned version. We strip the embedded GPS coordinates along with all other EXIF metadata, so the file no longer reveals where it was taken. The image itself is untouched — only the location and other metadata are removed.
Does removing EXIF data reduce image quality?
No. We remove metadata only and never re-encode or transcode the file, so the pixels stay byte-for-byte identical to your original. Image and video quality, resolution, and format are unchanged — only the hidden EXIF, GPS, and other metadata are gone.
Is it safe to upload my files here?
Yes. Files are encrypted in transit over HTTPS/TLS and encrypted at rest in storage, processed only to strip metadata, and automatically deleted within 24 hours. No account or signup is required, and your files are never shared.
How do I remove metadata from a PDF?
Upload your PDF on the homepage exactly like an image. We strip document metadata such as author, producing software, creation and modification dates, and other hidden properties, then give you a clean copy to download. The PDF's content and layout are unchanged.
What metadata does an iPhone photo contain?
iPhone photos (HEIC or JPEG) typically embed EXIF metadata including the device model, lens and camera settings, the date and time, and — if location services are enabled — the exact GPS coordinates where the photo was taken. Our tool removes all of it.
Are my files deleted after processing?
Yes. Both your original upload and the cleaned version are automatically deleted from storage within 24 hours. That gives you plenty of time to download your clean file, after which nothing is retained.
What file types are supported?
Remove-Metadata.com cleans 109 file formats — every format the bundled ExifTool (v13.59) can write to, so the metadata is actually removed rather than just hidden. Read-only formats are not accepted, since they can't be cleaned. Files up to 500 MB are supported and are never transcoded or re-compressed.

What is metadata?
Metadata is information attached to a file that describes it but isn't part of the visible content. A photo can carry your device model, camera settings, the date and time, your name, and the exact GPS location where it was taken — all travelling silently with the file.
Why is metadata a privacy risk?
Sharing a photo or video can unintentionally reveal your real name, your home or current location, and device details to anyone who receives it. Business documents can leak old client names, ex-employee names, and internal network info. Stripping metadata protects your privacy and safety.
What about files bigger than 500 MB?
The free tool handles files up to 500 MB. Larger files aren't supported at this time.
